IN A NUTSHELL
Backstage & Orkla Snacks
Before:
Product names, categories and barcodes differed by country. Identical items had different IDs, and different items shared names. Retailer point-of-sale data arrived in different formats and levels of detail, so analysts spent days stitching files before they could analyse.
IDA’s data team joined the course with little to no prior experience in Databricks. They needed a clear, structured introduction that could help them tackle real, concrete tasks. The course gave them exactly that.
After:
One Databricks platform with shared product and customer master data. Provider inputs are standardized and quality checked. Sales data is harmonized and comparable across markets. Ready to share with the parent company, Orkla Snacks.

IN BRIEF
1.
Challenge:
Orkla Snacks wanted to consolidate data from 6 Business Units in 6 different markets.
The same products could be identified differently across all markets.
External retail sell-out data arrived in different formats and granularity per country.
Each BU built its own way of fixing data, which made cross-market comparison slow and inconsistent.
Analysts spent days communicating with BU’s and cleaning files before they could run basic comparisons.
Fragmented provider feeds and BU fixes made cross-country reporting slow, manual and hard to trust.
2.
Solution:
A central Databricks platform on Azure for Orkla Snacks.
Created shared product and customer master data using Eddytor to harmonize data.
Defined a common ingestion schema and data agreements for provider feeds.
Added data quality tests and automated email alerts when rules fail.
Consolidated and served curated data to Power BI for analysis and group reporting.
One platform now ingests, standardizes and quality-checks all sell-out data, with shared master data tables that everyone can use.
3.
Future:
Data from all BUs and markets now lives in one place. Everyone queries the same definitions.
Cross-market analysis becomes routine. Teams move from cleaning files to making decisions.
Orkla Snacks gets faster, consistent group reporting and a clearer view of trends across all markets.
New providers or countries can be onboarded using the same standards with minimal rework.
With one harmonized platform, analysis is easy, decisions are faster, and both the BUs and Orkla Snacks can act with confidence.
